Apple has 5.82B shares outstanding @ $124.75 USD
If POET were to sell out for 1:1, it would be a about a 4.3% dilution (at 250M shares outstanding), although I'm not certain what the tax implications for a transaction like that would be for them.
With the dilution you could expect the share price to drop $5 US, just for the dilution, however, with what POET brings to the company, that might evaporate quickly.
It would be a sweet deal in all likelyhood.
Still don't believe that is the way we will go though. Reading through the obituaries of AC, it was clear that he didn't want Canadian innovation to be gobbled up by American interests. This is why I asked the question of the company how AC's death affected the direction of the BoD. I suggest that he was the one who talked them into the licencing model and keeping the technology close to home.
