This shouldn't surprise anybody. Science has proved that if people have a strong passion they will believe only what they want to believe and won't allow facts to get into their way.

Or as the article "Scientists’ depressing new discovery about the brain" puts it:

"When people are misinformed, giving them facts to correct those errors
only makes them cling to their beliefs more tenaciously."

This has been shown for political stances, but should also hold true in other realms like the stock market, nuclear power etc.

Oh, this works for both directions, of course! So those who are long for POET (like me) should also take care, try to understand how their brains operate, take a step back from themselves and always stay cool.
