It would have been hard to believe Apple didn't have some communication with POET. They have always prided themselves on being the lead innovators and taking (well thought out) chances to keep them ahead of the pack.

Apple may also be willing, and most likely already have committed, a retainer fee to keep the competition out during this development phase for the prototype. It may not be a "set" income stream, but it would be nothing for them to drop a few million to keep a close eye on this develpment and block the competition by many months/years from getting involved.

Pending anything negative that the simulated and calculated testing missed, it seems like this company will be a heavy hitter in the coming years. It's probably safe to assume that this prototype will have a very good chance of success given all the years that have been put into bringing it this far.

Though this news release didn't directly say (exactly) what we were all waiting for, it certainly implies as much and indicates that POET is moving forward in a big way.

Apple are involved. Anyone else writing articles saying this is not a technology worth considering, or that it is never going to become a reality, might need to blow the dust off their mindset and catch up in a hurry.
