Commentary re: "Samsung will get 'slaughtered' blah, blah, blah . . ."
This article is fascinating for all the wrong reasons (no offence to the OP for sharing - I loved reading it). I hope when POET becomes a major force they don't resort to this kind of promotion.
I have a bit of a backgroud with the OS described in this article. I currently have 5 tablets in my home and I have replaced Samsung's stock OS with Cyanogenmod on 4 of them. I'm kind of a tech hobbyist and I love tinkering with different roms and this is one of the main reasons I favour Android-based devices over Apple. I am a big fan of Cyanogenmod builds and I support any effort to keep Android open to 3rd party integration. I really hate that our choice of device hinges on the ecosystem we have been trapped in, be it Apple, Samsung, Google, or other.
So, while I totally support what Cyanogenmod is doing, I think most of what was presented in the article was blown WAY out of proportion and in some cases flat out wrong. The CEO is simply not a citizen of this world.
This is especially true of the title. How does Samsung not benefit from the commoditization of technology when they are one of very few companies that can compete with low cost components?
There is barely a fact presented by the CEO that can't be refuted. And to make matters worse, Cyanogenmod depends on Samsung indirectly to craft their alternate Android-based Cyanogenmod releases. While it's true that Google releases each iteration of Android (Lollipop now), and usually releases it on a device that they brand their own (historically build by either LG, Samsung, HTC, etc.), everyone knows that the Google has Samsung largely to thank for the proliferation of each Android version, at least in North America. The fact that Cyanogenmod has become so popular is due to the fact that there are devices capable of being modded already out there and because developers of other mods have made a market for custom roms. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!

As far as POET relates to the content of the article is that it is the antithesis of commoditization. POET will bring the "paradigm shift" that will spell trouble for a company like Cyanogenmod who is betting on a future where all phones/tablets are basically the same except for the software.
