This is an open question, probably directed to FJ as it could be highly technical. but if you would be so kind to venture a theory: Given the substancial savings in energy, substancial increase in speed, and compatibility with CMOS, would it make sense, or even be possible, to retrofit a large Server Farm, like the ones Google have, with our GaAs chips.
It would be quite an undertaking but they must have a long service life with no moving parts, and require a huge intrastructure to power and cool all those Silicon chips. So I was wondering if it would make economical sense to change them out, or is it cheaper just to build a new facility for increased performance. I'd welcome a comment from anyone who might have some ideas or knowledge about this. It might not even be possible.
