BlackToad: Warfare and Business are very similar. When I talk about eating somebody's lunch it's about hitting them where it hurts. Why wouldn't POET go after 88.7% of the Global Smartphone Profits? The Application Examples of the A4 & A8 chip used in p5 of 14, may not be a coincidence. Samsung and TSMC have had a good run so far, time for a diet!
Well, POET will eat a good deal of the global smartphone market – eventually, but not right now. If things were this fast and easy, they wouldn't have to fiddle aroud with stuff like ring oscillator and VCSEL, but instead just wait for March 9th and have Tim Cook announce the POET partnership. Won't happen.

35:26 – Peter Copetti: And I was saying some gentlemen earlier on that for our first partnership, Ajit and I were looking at these companies and we don’t need them to write a big cheque. What we really want them to do is to invest 30 or 40 engineers of their time. We need them to invest some of their know-how to partner with our engineers in order to take an end-product company and say, “We really want to be here in two years,” and get POET to do it. Because after that basically the world would be on our oyster. All the other markets that POET has will be substantiated with one commercial deal. We anticipate that commercial deal in fiscal 2015.
Peter is sketching here the following timeline:
- Commercial deal (partnership) in 2015
- Development
- End-product completed (roughly) 2017
