Johnyreg: It would make no sens to publish a promotion video it they taught that POET would only be integrated into devises in 3 to 5 years.

There will be low-hanging fruits and high-hanging fruits. No surprise: We'll see low-hanging fruits first, perhaps one of those infamous optical interface chips. Microprocessors on the other hand are very complex. They are way up in the tree and will take some time.

As I already pointed out here some time ago, I am expecting three stages for introducing POET-based microprocessor designs:

  1. Replacing silicon transistors by PET transistors 1:1 – quick win.
  2. Introducing POET devices to achieve local optimizations while maintaining the overall processor architecture, possibly in various iterations. Example: replacing the six transistors of an SRAM memory cell by two thyristors.
  3. Completely new processor design from ground up based on POET devices.
