I may be misunderstanding something here but I simply can not imagine anyone quitting a well paying job to become CEO of poet unless said technology is already in existence and ready to roll

Some people are willing to take on a little more risk in their lives for a greater potential payout. Not everyone lives for mere security (and smart people know that nothing is secure anyway).
