Military is what gets new technologies like this first, but it is never announced to the public (for obvious reasons), until it is time for the technology to hit consumers market.

This would explain why we will never know about any military contracts.

I bet they (the military) have been successfully using it for years in their devices.

And now the technology is at the point it is allowed to go to consumers market.

This is at least how it worked with the new technologies during Cold War.

The lag between the technologies introduced into military devices and the moment they were allowed to be used by general public was around 15 years.

Looking at the history of POET (19 years) one could easily relate and conclude the technology is already proven by now, so it is safe (and wise) to invest in it now. And it is now matter of a couple of years before it materializes in publically accessible devices.
