Putting aside debates about if/when the next develpments will be announced, I think you should be taking Smedley's remarks about what the tech can become with a grain of salt. He obviously thinks there's a good chance of succeeding or he wouldn't own shares himself - and knowing when to buy, hold, or sell is his area of expertise. He is also adept at issuing the standard statements that come packaged with a venture investment.

What Smedley isn't able to do is to articulate the benefits and risks of the technology itself. For instance, he's not sure if foundries can take POET into their facilities eithout an overhaul. This is a good question, but it's easily answered with readily available information.

So by all means, take his investment advice to be safe, but don't ever do it thinking he has technical knowledge that you and I can't access. In other words, the idea that POET will only occupy some niche market is silly. POET may ENTER the market in one niche, but they will continue to make inroads over a longer time horizon.
