The full title of that article is:

The polariton laser: With 250x lower power consumption, could this be the answer to on-chip optical interconnects?

While this new laser is definitely great stuff for optical interconnects, please keep in mind that with POET optical interconnects between chips are not needed, because everything is integrated into a single chip.
