Possible link between Autonomous Car & POET ?

I was looking closely at the diagram on this link about the autonomous car and I noticed it said Source: Behnam Behroozpour/The Optical Society/UC Berkeley

I started following POET's old patents from the beginning of this "VCSEL" brought me back to one of Dr. Taylors early invensions - at the bottom of the patent it says

"© (1993) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering."

And I thought imagine if Dr. Taylor is a member...

On the UCONN Staff Directory it shows Dr. Taylor with these memberships.
