I haven't seen anywhere posted today how he got appointed to serve on the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership Steering committee until I read bobsmith1 post on SH

Last but not the least, he was appointed by President Obama to serve on Advanced Manufacturing Partnership Steering committee in 2012 and is playing a lead role to drive the national agenda to bring Advanced Manufacturing back into the US.
