I know many were excited passing the 2$ threshold and I of course was as well. I think today reminded us just what that means everytime we go higher and higher and achieve more and more with regards to IP, milestones and overall company achievements.
Today and yesterday a bunch of people, including myself got slammed with Margin Call payment time. This is what happens when we start reaching these thresholds. Apparently different brokers have different rules but in the end, anyone who bought on margin had to pony up their shares, sell something else or transfer money.
The thing is that the MM's know this. They know that the excitement was there and they knew some would want an extra piece (be it a bigger long term position or like me some flippers). Mine was a mistake but it was besides the point since I had time to sell.
The higher we go and the more eyes on us (Oogee posted a great stat regarding traffic) the more we're susceptible to these games. You should only invest in a stock on the venture, or any stock that you're overly invested in that you're willing to lose and that won't change your life whether it hits zero. Obviously if and when we hit lives will change and that's the joy of being in a stock like this.
That being said keep in mind that a lot of this sell off was overexagerrated by the MM's (In my opinion - always). They know some would be squeezed and not everyone can cover and selling your shares is the only way. This created a huge downward pressure to go along with the fear mongering that was going on by the downward pressure and the MM's sell off, shorting, whatever you want to call it.
Hang tight but make your own decisions. I use the word sheep a lot because there is a huge herd mentality on here. Do your own DD, make decisions that you can live with without pointing the finger at others and good luck.
I think we're in for a fun ride.
