The fact that the tablet market didn't exist when Pellegrino made his first valuation has to have an impact. It's true that some of the general computing market has taken a beating from the smartphone/tablet market, stealing market share rather than creating it, but this is far overshadowed by the demand for big data.

One more thing I'd like to add is the new patent applications should also add great value to the updated valuation. One of the biggest risks to the value of POET was identified by Pellegrino himself during the conference call back in March 2011. He strongly stated that POET's value hinged on speed-to-market, due to the expiry date of the patents at the time. The most lucrative years would be the latter years as market adoption reached an apex, after which POET's IP would expire. This is why the new patents are so critical. It should bump the P2 valuation and I suspect this is yet another reason why these patients were filed hurriedly and simultaneously.
