Poet Technologies Inc., a Canadian company that has operations in Storrs, said today that it's on track to delivery by mid-2014 a semiconductor chip based on its technology platform.
Poet executives have met with several companies interested in adapting the Poet platform to commercial-scale implementation, the company said.
Poet promises to combine electronics and optics on a single semiconductor wafer, which it says would lead to improvements in size, power, speed and cost.
"This is the critical period approaching the last phases of development, towards the introduction to the semiconductor industry of a revolutionary, and validated, process to produce integrated monolithic optoelectronic chips," Peter Copetti, executive director and chairman, said in a statement. "The company continues to target a liquidity event for investors, which has remained a primary objective throughout our discussions."
