Just because he held a product manager role in the past doesn't mean thats exactly what he was brought on to do at POET. I'm sure he was brought on because of his experience in the semiconductor space as a whole. Besides remember that POET is a process, not a product. Not sure how product management would tie in here, though I must admit I'm really only familiar with the software side.
Just my two sense since I'm a TPM myself. Also to clarify (since you posted a definition of a TPM here) the roles and responsibilties of a Technical PM vs a Director of PM would be vastly different so I don't think what was posted here would really depict at all what Gagnon would be doing for POET either way.
