S&P/TSX composite index Just four months after wallowing at the 12,000 level amid fallout from the global credit crunch, the benchmark index of the TSX hit a record high above 15,000 Tuesday amid ongoing strength in commodity stocks.
The S&P/TSX composite index was sitting at 15,086 at 1:13 p.m. ET — up 103 points. The index also crossed over the 15,000 level for a few seconds right at the opening of trading.
The recent run-up in the TSX — 25 per cent since January — is largely due to the spectacular rise in the most heavily-weighted industry group in the index — energy.
