03:51 PM EDT, 11/02/2021 (MT Newswires) -- Noront Resources (NOT.V) bidder BHP Lonsdale Investments, a unit of BHP Group (BHP), on Tuesday said it is in discussions with Wyloo Metals over "potential support" of its C$0.75 per share offer for the Ontario mining company, extending the deadline for shareholders to tender shares to Nov.16 from Nov.9.
BHP last month topped Wyloo's C$0.70 offer for Noront, as the two Australian companies battled for control of Noront's mineral properties in northern Ontario's Ring of Fire region. Noront endorsed BHP's C$420 million offer after Wyloo, which has a 37% stake in Noront, failed raise its bid.
However BHP said the two companies are in discussions but offered no detail.
"BHP and Wyloo Metals have engaged in initial conversations and are considering a mutually beneficial arrangement regarding the acquisition of Noront by BHP. There is no assurance that any agreement will be reached between BHP and Wyloo Metals," the company said in a release.
Noront shares were last seen up C$0.01 to C$0.86 on the TSX Venture Exchange.
