I don't buy Yesno's answer to their power crisis. Watay Power had said that Matawa wasn't part of their initial plans, but that they could be. Why did they not join when this was offered;?. If Matawa had agreed to be part of Watay I am sure they could have been. Again, why they did not at the time is beyond me. They were all either foolish not to, or worried that it would change their ability to control the E/W corridor, or any ownership over the Ring of Fire. Silly.
This bold decision of theirs to not allow progress to be made along the E/W corridor has now come back to bite them; IMO. Same goes for Neskantaga. Our government was right to dissolve the Framework Agreement, and I feel the only ones opposed to this now are Neskantaga, and MPP Mamakwa. Who not only represents this community, but those downstream in Mushkegowuk territory. Chief Yesno at least knows now that he must continue under his communities' own steam. But as for the rest who are pulling Mamakwa's puppet strings to vent their anger I really have to ask, "Why now?" You've had years to do this.
Have these recent country wide blockades opened some door that now allows you to interfere where you have no right. The fact that both Webequie and Marten Falls have not fought back says one thing to me. They know what their doing is right, and that it is no one elses business but their own. However, they cannot, or will not, stop their fellow opportunistic First Nations from trying to squeeze infrastructure, money, or IBAs out the government with their idle threats. This much I would like to see addressed and called out. These First Nations need to come clean about their own internal infighting. In all fairness Ontario cannot always be made the enemy.
