I keep coming back to this sentence in the Globe and Mail Article.

"The financial case for heavily indebted Ontario to invest in the Ring of Fire has always been questionable."

Ownership of a toll road & rail will be lucrative to the owners. It is not just about Noront or the ROF it is about opening up the entire area for exploration

TGR rail was very willing to invest in the rail and Mushkegowuk FN would have been part owners of the rail, and they were willing to buy Ontario Northland. Why did the gov't push this into a closet?

https://www.northernontariobusiness.com/industry-news/transportation/mushkegowuk-ring-of-fire-plan-attracts-railroader-interest-370995

And remember Canadian Stimulus funds that had an offer and didn't even get the courtesy of a reply from Gov't??

 TOLL ROADS make money. RAIL makes money

========================================================

 I have watched the "workings" of sprott, teck, hudbay, Anglo Pacific Group...IN THE ROF AREA....for over a decade...

Anglo Pacific has a NSR for ROF chromite... by the way.

https://www.anglopacificgroup.com/royalties/ring-of-fire/

Most people think it was Noront that was first to find the chrome.

It wasn't

It was Northern Shield in 2005! The high bank lake claims can be described as passing through the KWG rail claims.

The higher the chromite values the higher the platinum values.

PGE EXPLORATION Chromite clue found at Highbank Lake

NORTHERN ONTARIO NORTHERN SHIELD RESOURCES of Ottawa has recovered a chromite boulder from its Highbank Lake PGE

NORTHERN ONTARIO NORTHERN SHIELD RESOURCES of Ottawa has recovered a chromite boulder from its Highbank Lake PGE property. The company believes the discovery is important as it, together with the abundance of chromite grains and chromitite fragments previously recovered during exploration from stream sediment samples, provides further indication of the presence of a significant mafic-ultramafic layered intrusion beneath the till cover on the property. The presence of chromitite layers highlights the possible potential for the presence of PGEs which are often closely associated with the chromitite layers.

Specifically, Northern Shield discovered a 5-kg boulder in overburden near the centre of the property. The rock has alternating layers of chromite and disseminated chromite with minor nickel sulphides. The thickest layer visible is about 2 cm. Assays of the material returned 29.4% Cr and anomalous platinum, palladium and nickel values.

The Highbank Lake property covers a newly discovered layered intrusion. IMPALA PLATINUM HOLDINGS of South Africa has an option to earn a 60% interest in the project by spending $5 million on exploration over the next five years. More detailed information about the Highbank Lake is available at www.Northern-Shield.com.

This caught the eye of IMPALA Platinum Holdings  from South Africa.(now implats). One of the largest platium miners in the world.

 80% of the world’s production of platinum comes from layered intrusions in southern Africa.

Impala Platinum Holdings is the company’s partner at Highbank and can earn 60% of the project by spending $5 million on exploration

Ottawa (June 2, 2011) – Northern Shield Resources Inc. ("Northern Shield") (TSX-V: NRN) is pleased to announce a 1600-metre drill program at Highbank is scheduled to commence in July of this year.

In 2007, drill-holes 01 and 05 intersected rock-types that are equivalent to those seen at the very top of the Critical Zone in the Bushveld Complex in South Africa. The “Critical Zone” marks the transition from mafic to ultramafic rocks. In the Bushveld, the two main PGE-bearing reefs are located just below this transition. Northern Shield will test the southwestern and western portion of the layered intrusion with four or five holes along strike from the two holes drilled in 2007, where interpretations suggest that the “Critical Zone” comes closer to surface. Previous work by Northern Shield has identified grains of sperrylite (platinum sulphide) and pentlandite (nickel sulphide) along with chromite grains and boulders in stream sediment samples immediately down-ice from this target area. The drill program will also test the continuation of the vanadium-titanium- iron-ore reef that was discovered in the initial drill program at Highbank in 2006. On completion of the drill program at Highbank it is planned to move the drill to Wabassi to join the one already there. Updates of exploration activity at Wabassi, including outstanding assays from the spring drill program, should be available very shortly.

==================================================================

Let's just say that certain "companies" moved into Northern Shield, and as a result, their Wabassi claims near Eabametoong were  sold off to a private American Company based in Virginia.

and their FLAGSHIP highbank claims were "dropped".....after a certain group moved in and became major shareholders.

It's astounding to me the silence regarding discussion about precious metals in chromite layers when it comes to the ROF.

I guess when One is trying to consolidate the ROF for cheap...Pesky neighbours boasting about drill results is not a good thing.

Northern shield never did their 1600m drill program of their flagship highbank lake that was planned in 2011. Let's just say that the largest shareholders...rule.

But this responsible stuff must be scary for some companies.

It's even being applied to gold..

https://www.kitco.com/news/2019-09-12/World-Gold-Council-This-Is-What-Responsible-Gold-Mining-Will-Look-Like.html

Becoming "responsible" comes at a big cost...paying workers properly, treating them right...reducing emissions etc...Not cheap. Think of where most of the platinum, palladium comes from

Not surprising that Implats did this deal.

"In October 2019, Implats announced it would acquire the outstanding shares in Canadian-based North American Palladium Limited for $758 million"
