Opposition leader Andrea Horwath of the NDP visits with MPP Sol Mamakwa during a tour of the northwest.
Kiiwetinoong MPP Sol Mamakwa says Ontario Premier Doug Ford may be missing a window of opportunity, when it comes to the Ring of Fire.
"Why has the premier not responded and taken the time to meet with Matawa Chiefs on the Ring of Fire developments?" the member asked in Question Period.
In response, the government says consultations with First Nations are an important part of their plans moving forward. Housing Minister Steve Clark said the province's housing supply action plan -- or the made in Ontario environment plan -- were created with First Nation consultations in mind.
Mamakwa told the legislature he is concerned about the review of the Far North Act, Environmental Assessment Act along with the Endangered Species Act. He has also been lobbying for at-risk youth in the Far North, along with the clean up of the mercury contamination along the English River and Wabigoon River systems.
Clark added his government has received lots of feedback, including from First Nations.
