Message: Ontario playing favourites with First Nations on Ring of Fire, say chiefs
Eabametoong Chief Elizabeth Atlookan addresses the minister:

" ... The government was able to fracture and possibly get the road at the least cost," said Atlookan. "It caused a rift among the nations."

Hmmm a fiscally conservative government, looking after the taxpayers of Ontario ...what a concept...what a travesty !

..sounds as if they are upset that the government is going along with the demands of the least espensive "hostage-taker", or ignoring the resource- development "hostage-takers" altogether ...what if turn about was fair play and the Feds decided that they didn't want to annually fund the winter road network which includes towns such as
Eabametoong (Fort Hope)? (see below)  ...now those sort of hard-ball tactics wouldn't be fair now would they ? Not that I'm suggesting that , or that the Government on either level would consider such a move, but it goes to show the duplicity of their position and mindthink

The province has announced $5.7 million to build winter roads in the Far North in 2018-2019.

The funds will go to 29 First Nations and the Town of Moosonee to build and maintain 3,160 kilometres of temporary winter roads.

“Winter roads provide vital connections to all-season roads, making it easier to bring in essential services and goods like food, medical and construction supplies,” Northern Development Minister Greg Rickford said in a Nov. 21 news release.

“The winter roads network also supports the local economy in Far North communities by providing more affordable transportation options for the mining industry.”

Weather permitting, the winter roads network is open from around mid-January until the spring thaw.

A full list of the communities and their funding allotment is available here.
