Mr. Romano also spent many days and nights in Indigenous communities to form partnerships/friendships as the Ring of Fire can only come to fruition with a good relationship.

Thoughts.....At least with the PC's Romano is skilled on the ROF file.

MPP Ross Romano addresses the crowd.

“Within  two days after winning the election last June, I was on a plane and meeting Noront executives because I knew how important the Ring of Fire was going to be. At that point, we were not even on their radar as Algoma (Essar) was (still) in CCAA protection.” Ross Romano said .

He says, at that time, there was a concern that the land wasn’t going to be available to them. “For the next thirty days and numerous trips to Toronto, including one with Algoma CEO Kalyan Gosh and Tom Dodds (EDC), we were able to give them assurances that the land would be available to build on.” This helped put Sault Ste. Marie onto the shortlist.

As we all know, SSM has sent a bid along with three other communities (Sudbury, Timmins, Thunder Bay) and we are waiting for Noront to decide which community will be host to the ferrochromite processing facility which is expected to bring around 1000 highly skilled and high paying jobs to the North. It will also inject millions into the northern economy.

Romano says that many people were involved in the behind the scenes negotiations with Noront to be put on the shortlist, and they include all levels of local, provincial, and the federal government. Mr. Romano also spent many days and nights in Indigenous communities to form partnerships/friendships as the Ring of Fire can only come to fruition with a good relationship. The roads to access and ship the product must be built on their land to bring it to the processing facility.

If re-elected Romano could in all likelihood have the advantage of bringing prosperity to SSM via a majority government over the next 4 years. Polls show that the NDP and PC’s are neck and neck in the North but strategically the Conservatives could take a majority of the seats in the Ontario Legislature due to its influence in Southern Ontario ridings.

Romano and the PC’s if re-elected say they will  bring Ontario 15 000 long-term beds in the first five years (30 000 in 10 years) on a Healthcare front to alleviate congestion, invest $1.9 Billion dollars towards mental health and addictions, and bring free dental care to low-income seniors.
