The Detroit News is reporting that U.S. president Donald Trump has made a promise to fix the Soo Locks.
Trump made the pledge during a rally in Michigan over the weekend.
In 2017, The U.S Army Corps of Engineers learned that the funding required to complete a modernization study of the Soo Locks had been cut without explanation.
The bipartisan Soo Locks Modernization Act - legislation authorizing the necessary level of funding to construct another Poe-sized lock - was introduced last year.
