I am expecting, like everyone else, that the Ring of Fire will be one of the hottest topics in discussion. A nice way to start May off; with a BANG. We know all of these Northwestern municipalities are fighting for a piece of the action, with some in need more than others; Pickle Lake and Sioux Lookout as an example. Unlike other NOMA meets this one should give us a glimpse at how serious the future Premier of Ontario hopeful is about getting the Ring of Fire going. I can see a lot of promises and mud slinging between all three.
But I still believe that May will be the month that the Liberals start flexing some Ring of Fire muscle, and this NOMA event is a perfect opportunity for them to show their dominance over the others. If Wynne starts off weak in front of NOMA, without any references to the First Nations and their current efforts to move the ROF forward, then I would have to say the Liberals are risking the loss of the Northern vote. A vote they need desperately since the south is tetering on the verge of becoming Ford Nation. The north is purely about the jobs and infrastructure, and if the Ring of Fire doesn't happen then the north will suffer huge losses for everyone, including the First Nations. Because without prosperity in the north the average Ontarian will speak loudly about why so much money is being diverted in that direction, and by that I mean why the First Nations are becoming so favoured by our government at the expense of economic stability. The key here is that any decision must be made so that everyone gains, and no one loses; prosperity for all.
