Message: U.S. President Trump calls for 24 per cent tariff on all steel imports

Rather than relying on the "media's" take on things concerning section 232 and it's "Potential" impact on Canada.....

Remember that the Lenders are currently in talks with the steel unions like steelworkers 2251...and this negative "media suggestion"..helps..."some".. get their point across...judge gave a deadline of March 31 for the Algoma proceedings.

If you take the time and read 262 pages ...you will get a different perspective than the one you get when you are a  media headline reader.

The below, I believe is the most important link to read on the subject.

https://www.commerce.gov/file/effect-imports-steel-national-security-investigation-conducted-under-section-232-trade

read the section on national defence in particular. Read the testimony from Cliffs, now (Clevland Cliffs)

And if you go to page 135 of 262...you will see this written.

"The one supplier I have complete confidence in is CANADA

Not only do we currently have a steel surplus with Canada we also share a border and have synergistic, strategic, economic and NATIONAL Security interests

HOWEVER, treating CANADA as a unique partner under any Section 232 relief requires that Canada also strengthen and align its trade enforcement efforts with ours.

Circumvention and evasion of US trade laws and actions through Canada is not acceptable."

================================================

I suggest reading Cliff testimony starting on page 129 of page 262(but some stuff has been..cut out).

so I suggest reading this pdf which as some examples from Cliffs...check out example A & B..

"to avoid the limitations we send the container to ...other countries."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Look at Essar Algoma in Sault Ste Marie and look at US Steel Hamilton/Stelco.

Where they not affected by what Cliffs was testifying about?

Why wouldn't Canada want to align its trade enforcement efforts with the USA???

The stuff that was going on hurt Canada too.
