PW, I both agree and disagree with your statement. First, the Liberals have no intention of letting their control over the Ring of Fire go. Doing so would show an ineptitude so great that the lasting effects would carry-on for years to come. Whether the public on their own knows about the Ring of Fire, Noront, or the plight of our provincial First Nations does not matter, because the opposition to the Liberals will be reminding them; election or not. I believe that the Liberals have actually grown a thick skin to maintain their secrecy, that progress is being made, that there is a political agenda to save their ASSets, and that if they do not do something by the fall that any future Liberal stronghold, at the provincial or federal level, will be kissed goodbye.
Long ago I told Vic Fedeli that if you want to win people over to the Conservatives that you have to promote the Ring of Fire 24/7, venture across the province and tell everyone what lies in the North and how closing the social gap between our First Nations and the rest of Ontario will be the only way for our province to prosper. I said, " Vic, put in the papers, get yourself on TV, do infomercials.......If you want to beat these Liberals then you must convince all of Ontario that the Ring of Fire is where tax dollars need to be focused on. An investment in something that unlike most government schemes has the biggest socioeconomic punch this province has seen for a very long time". Well.....as you can see my suggestion did not have much of an effect on him. Going to the media to herald the prosperity of the Ring, or to tell all about how it will help our First Nations has not been something he has chosen to do....Neither have the Liberals, the NDP, the Green Party.....and everyone else in our political circles.
Justin is a young man PW. He still has a long political career ahead of him, and a legacy to uphold. He will not let his minions fail him. Wynne knows what she has to do, and when to sway the vote. Yes, she does need to secure the 416/905, but she already has an unfair advantage over her rivals, and they know it. They know, or at least should know that if, unlike Vic, she decides to go public and educate the masses on what Justin and her have done for the First Nations, and how reviving the trust between them and the government (Liberal of course) has opened up the prosperity of the Ring for all then we could see her using this as the ace up her sleeve.
My gut says she has been hiding behind a blind PW. Everyone thinks the Liberals are bluffing. I think NOT.....and I am betting on it. So too are all of us who are invested in Noront.
The Liberals are at fork in the road.....They can either hold strong for years to come, or watch the opposition take credit for all the progress they have made this far. There will be an announcement....maybe not the exact one we want to hear.....for it never is. But one that will keep the Liberal favour and appease the 416/905. People want to hear good news....and the Liberals know that for them to win the next provincial election here in Ontario that they are going to have to start campaigning soon to undo all the negative media circling around like the Wynne.
The public is fickle....they always want something new.....something to believe in to better their lives.....I see the Ring of Fire not only fitting the bill here for the Liberals, but also paying for it.
GLTA,
TM.
