Message: Thunder Bay CEDC / MRS Recommendations Summary

This summary is from August 2016.

http://www.thunderbay.ca/Assets/CEDC/MRS+Recommendations+-+Aug+2016.pdf

It contains some interesting tidbits, especially if you scroll down to view all of the "Current Activity Action" under the headings of "Economic Development / FWFN (Fort William First Nation)", "Energy" and "Project Financing and Partnering".  Although the summary is dedicated to Thunder Bay, there is a lot that pertains to the Ring of Fire; 2013 - 2016.  It may take a while to read and search all of the items in the summary, but I found it worth the time and effort.

Highlights:

  • Ferrochrome Processing facility not feasible due to electrical grid in NWO not robust enough/does not have capacity to sponge VAR transient spikes of a furnace (E-W tie will help) ferrochrome could work if there is a natural gas solution potentially that could be scaled up? (KWG Resource vision and patent but early days)-not feasible due to energy limits
  •  Intergovernmental Affairs received Briefing Notes from CEDC to address transporation(requirement for regional planning and financing for First Nations and Noront East West Road)
  • East-West road study completed in June 2016 led by 4 Matawa First Nations and conducted by SNC Lavalin. MNDM and 4 Chiefs are retaining as a confidential document at this point (August 2016)
  • MNDM funding FN infrastructure (winter roads) & fibre optics CEDC requested that MNDM establish a planning subcommittee through the current Mineral Development Strategy Process - MNDM--no response to date
