Isadore Day, Ontario Regional Chief, Forum Co-Host
Isadore Day served as Chief of the Serpent River First Nation in 2005-2015. His accomplishments during that time include negotiating a $13M water treatment plant, building a community center and establishing community based environmental protection systems through the creation of the SRFN Environmental Review Commission. He notes: “We are facing some of the most difficult times in the modern history of planet earth; hence the role of leadership requires strength, determination and political interventions that protect First Nation jurisdiction over lands and supports Sustainable Economies that will give hope and opportunity to our children, and to those yet to come.”
 
Hon. Bill Mauro, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister of Northern Development and Mines
Bill Mauro was first elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003 as the MPP for Thunder Bay-Atikokan. He was re-elected in 2007, 2011 and 2014. He was previously Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, and before that Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. He has also served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Minister of Northern Development and Mines, and the Minister of Government Services. Before becoming an MPP, Mauro served on Thunder Bay City Council. He has also served on the boards of the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium, the Children’s Aid Society and the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
 
Hon. Bob Rae, Senior Partner, Olthuis Kleer Townshend LLP
Bob Rae works with First Nations as legal counsel, advisor, and negotiator. He served as Ontario’s 21st Premier in 1990-1995 and Interim Federal Leader of the Liberal Party in 2011-2013. He was named Queen’s Counsel in 1984, appointed to the Privy Council of Canada in 1998, named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2000, received the Order of Ontario in 2004 and Companion of the Order of Canada in 2015. In addition to his legal practice, Bob teaches at the University of Toronto as a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the School of Public Policy and Governance and as Distinguished Professor at Victoria College. An author of five books, he writes and speaks regularly on public issues.
