TBCHAMBER SECURES NATIONAL SUPPORT FORESTRY AND MINING #LSN_Econ

THUNDER BAY –-- September 20, 2016 (LSN) Mining issues were discussed and adopted including a call for federal partnership in developing mining infrastructure and the need to recognize the Ring of Fire as a project of national significance.

“We were pleased to bring local and regional concerns to this national discussion,” says Charla Robinson, President of the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce. “Our accepted proposal on Softwood Lumber is especially important to lumber mills across the region from Kenora and Emo to Longlac and White River. It ensures that Chambers across Canada are on te same page in the call for defense of free trade and the need for government support for the legal and financial challenges that may lie ahead for these companies.”

Representatives of the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce and the Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce have just returned from a successful weekend at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce annual meeting in Regina, Saskatchewan.

The Thunder Bay Chamber participated in the development of policy resolutions on the issues of mining, immigration and softwood lumber and was successful in having all four items adopted as policy positions of the Canadian Chamber. These issues will be pursued with the federal government over the coming months.
