Interesting trade behaviour

I just bought 30,500 shares at 29.5, a few minutes before the close.

Normally, when I do a trade like that, I'd see two or three emails come in. Maybe something like "bought 500, 30k remaining" then "bought 13k, 17k remaining," then "bought 17k, 0 remaining."

However, this time, I got sixty-one separate emails. Every single fill was for a single board lot (500 shares). So the order got filled immediately, but in a very large number of small transactions.

I wonder why there were so many individual orders for the sale of a single board lot?
