Message: Watay Power out to electrify Northern communities

http://www.northernontariobusiness.com/Industry-News/construction/2016/09/Watay-Power-out-to-electrify-Northern-communities.aspx

Below are quotes from the article above posted by "Ringer":

“There’s always an option to fan out from Pickle Lake toward the Ring of Fire. Our business case does not necessarily include the Ring of Fire, but there is that option. If the communities decided to be part of that then they would be able to.”

“Ensuring remote First Nation communities are connected to the energy grid will go a long way toward promoting socio-economic developments for the communities and their residents.”

If you open up the above link, and take a look at the map, I think many here on the forum would agree, in principle, that Webequie, Neskantaga, Nibinamik and Eabametoong have been approached already, and asked to become part of the Watay Power plan for electrification of the north. Although nothing has been made public, I personally believe that their participation is assured, and that they are already secretly a part of this initiative. However, looking at the map I can't help but think that the only reason we do not see these four First Nations, Martins Falls included, connected in the illustration is because of the influence it would have on the Ring of Fire negotiations. Instead, I see their omission on this map as deliberate, to avoid disclosing to others that these regions are ALSO in desperate need of reliable power.

I am certain that Watay Power has another map in their possession. One that shows the inclusion of these missing Matawa First Nation members, and that the release of this information will only occur once a decision about the E/W road has been made public; Phase 3. My impression of Watay Power is that they are being asked by Matawa not to divulge their inclusion in this electrification program. Doing so will weaken their position in any negotiations. Its quite obvious this group is holding their cards close to their chest, intent on looking for the best deal possible. Even if it means prolonging any progress in the Ring of Fire.

AIMHO,

TM.
