Message: Sudbury ultra-deep mining panel focusing on accelerating innovation

My understanding is that Glencore controls most of the chromite in South Africa. Could this point to a connection to ROF chromite? Now we see Noront partnering with Glencore at PDAC. Is Glencore training miners for ROF? Would love to hear Babjak1 on this!

Northern College, Glencore partner on underground program

By: Northern Ontario Business staff

Northern College’s Haileybury School of Mines is creating a Northern School of Hard Rock Mining through a partnership with Glencore.

The Underground Hard Rock Miner Common Core program will be delivered at the 2,400 training level at the Kidd Mine in Timmins.

Training will consist of four mandatory modules, along with up to nine other modules. The 12-week program will total 580 training hours, including first-hand experience gained by embedding students into operational crews and following production schedules. The first intake for the program is open with a start date in April 2016. Regular intakes will continue throughout the year.

As an added value, participants will also earn post-secondary credit that can be applied towards the online mining engineering technician diploma program at Northern or other post-secondary programs.

“Our partnership with Kidd Operations allows us to provide, where applicable, both trainer and employer modular sign-offs in order for the participants to receive their common core modules as registered with MTCU (Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities) Apprenticeship Branch Modular Training Division,” said Christine Heavens, the college’s executive director of community, business development and employment services.

Details are available by contacting Northern Training Division by phone at 705-235-3211 ext. 2174, or by email at hardrockminer@northern.on.ca.
