How fast would the Ring of Fire be developed in a Northern Ontario that was a separate province? In my youth in the mid-1970s, I was sympathetic to Northern Ontario Heritage Party.

Ed Deibel, a North Bay businessmen, unsuccessfully tried to separate from the South in order to establish “social, economic and cultural justice” for the people of northern Ontario.

In a separate province, we would not have southern Ontario ENGOs dictating resource policy. (While I live in Toronto, I will always be a northerner!)

There was never a vote in northern Ontario about joining the south. It was just a Queen's Park version of Manifest Destiny.
