I think all this talk about greed is an exaggeration if not just wrong. The FN are no more greedy than anyone else but they are ignorant and somewhat delusional. One example of delusional think was given earlier by a poster in which they said: “poking the Bear isn't wisest too do when you want some of it's honey.” Implying that the FN are the bear. In fact it is the opposite, the non-aboriginals are the bear and the FN keep poking them for honey. How long do you think that can go on before the bear gets fed up and then what do think will happen?
As far as Noront investors are concerned some may be greedy but don't paint them all with the same brush. The investors and mining companies are not doing anything that hasn't been done for thousands of years, it is a function of progress towards a modern society. We need the products of mining to live a modern life that is a fact that will not change so get used to it.
However the FN are trying to do something that has never been done before and that is a problem. I believe their approach and ideas are detrimental to their own future and they need to seriously rethink it especially with the long term in mind. Unfortunately I don't think many of those who live on the reservation in the Ring, especially the leaders, are capable of clear think, a product of their history for which the "white man” is partially to blame. However to cater to the FN just to avoid conflict or out of guilt for what happened in the past in my opinion is not doing them any favours.
Unfortunately it is not just the FN people who are incapable of clear thinking so are our politicians and many non-natives. Take the environmentalists for example who continually bash mining yet all use the products of mining. If they want to stop mining then stop using what they produce or shut up. Another example of nonsense thinking is that FN people do nothing that is detrimental to their environment but cutting some grid lines in the bush is permanently damaging the forest and killing the animals. Yet apparently FN communities that hunt and fish have no detrimental effect on anything? Could it be that their small numbers allow this thinking? What if these communities increase in population, which they will, do you not think at some point they will have a negative impact on their environment? Why is that not taken into consideration?
Anyway I could go on and on but I’ve said enough. May you think clearly and lead a happy and prosperous life. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
