For the most part we humans have been sharing the wrong things, namely conquering wars and I am not speaking of just the past but today.
By nature it is not just the strong taking over the weak but it also means workers dictating to the 'lazy'. It is natural to earn or defend what you want to keep. If you are unable or unwilling then you lose.

For the most part Canada has not had to literally conquer it's native peoples barring a rebellion or two. Had immigrant europeans done so we would not be having these debates. (As example for Trudeau, did his father tolerate or would accept separation of Quebec?)

Most of those Europeans got their comfort and wealth through hard work, excepting inheritance.
If northern Ontarians want to earn wealth then should go where there is wealth to be earned, much like Newfoundlanders moved to Toronto or Alberta. By all means, Yes to self empowerment. If they stay in the north to keep their life style, well that is their choice. We are not obligated to Give them our life style, they have to Earn it.

As to what was said about natives in the past was also said and done about new immigrants. How many of those belly ache now?

Yes, we in the 21st century's western world do try to apply ideals but also we should not forget nature.
