The problems are not the result of the government requiring the mining companies to consult. The problems that this duty creates are the same whether it is the mining companies or the provincial government doing the consulting. The problem was created by the supreme court that ruled a duty to consult.

However I do blame the province for not taking a harder stand on the ridiculous native land claims. The courts did not require the province to give up crown land to the natives unless the natives can prove the land is theirs, which they have not done. Yes it would lead to court battles but ones I believe the crown can win. The government needs some backbone to stand up for the mining industry and the taxpayers of Ontario.
