After wathcing this documentary, it made me think if a friend of mine that was in a situation similar to this, but on a much smaller scale.
A friend of mine had a recycling business located in Toronto. They wanted to open a 2nd location north of Barrie in a small town. They had put together a detailed plan and purchased land that was zoned for there busniess structure. When the city planner had released there plan to the local residents and business........All hell broke loose! They immediatley thought they were going to bring waste into there town, not recycable products. The people of the town put a stop to the project immediatley. They wanted more transparency and more say on the matter.
After spending a TON of money on engineers and lawyers, my friend decided to have a town meeting. They rented the local town hall, provided refreshments and snacks and asked everyone to be there......they wanted to address the concerns in person to make sure answers were given and they understood the needs of the local people. She answered all the questions personally and eventually made some changes to the plan to suffice some local concerns.
At the end of all this, they had to hire local people and hob nob with the local mayor but business happened. They opened, and are doing very well.
When I compare this to the Ring.....I think to myself this: We need the approval of the Native people before we go anywhere.....Will that ever happen.....I should hope so. Noront is the last ticket in town to mine the ring (as of now). If the natives run Noront out by asking for too much, that wouldn't be very smart on there part. But they are asking for certain things to hapens, and what they are asking for isn't that huge. Things you and I take for granted every day.............
Maybe we should have someone else negotiating with them? Maybe Bob Rae isn't that guy? There are a lot of "Maybes'" but at the end of the day, Noront holds all the cards!
IMHO
