"How about no payments for what they dont own..."
That is how it should be but we have to admit that Canada is the other party to the signed treaty and WE Also have to abide by it.

They did and still do live on this land and for the price of bringing them from the stone age and providing all the benefits of modern society they forfeited their right to what May have been theirs. Mind you by Theirs we think in European terms, meaning title, deed or land with borders which they obviously did not have. That was not with them to the same degree as we have and are accustomed to. Iriquois did destroy the Hurons so they did fight for what they believed is theirs or for power. We on the whole did not defeat them as was done in the States, Metis rebellion excepted. It was mostly through negociation and so it should be now.

I am of the opinion that we do need to provide them with compensation but not in direct dollar payments to communities, even though I believe federal government is paying to individuals on reserves through support payments.

I would abolish all treaties and make natives what they should be, equal with all Canadians. With dual status at least some citizens are discriminated more or less and unnecessary complications ensue as we are experiencing now.
