I looks like there might not be as many cheap shares as people might have hoped for in the new year for their TFSA .

I assume that people can start buying for their TFSA now, even before January 1st, since trades don't settle for three business days. That's why the deadline in Canada for tax-loss selling was December 24th this year, as the trades on the 24th would settle on December 31st. Am I incorrect in this assumption?
