On the big map behind me (James Bay and others who have this map can confirm), it shows the Canada Chrome claims leading into the ROF. There are two north-south routes on this map.
And Bill Boors is correct is stating that the route, in fact both routes cut through other companies`claims and or JVs.
In route #1 on the west side of the map (which I believe is the chosen route), at the southern end of the map CCC`s rail route goes through Canterra`s claims for a short distance, part of the Rainy Mountain project. Then, as the route approaches the bottom of the ROF, it goes through the Temex-KWG JV Rainy Mountain claims for a longer stretch and again for a short bit into a BMK-Temex JV as it enters the ROF.
On route #2 to the right on the map, at the bottom of the map the route goes through another Temex-KWG JV, then a little futhur up, goes through 100% Canterra owned claims for a longer stretch, then at the south end of the ROF, through that Temex-KWG JV Rainy Mtn project again.
So yes, there is more than just KWG to negotiate with here. I'll bet that Frank Smeeck knew all that when this route was planned (although there may not have been a ot of choices). But it does offer some takeover protection for CCC and KWG. Frank Smeeck has a lot of friends in the ROF.
Government should not intervene and allow Cliffs access to KWG's claims without any compensation. Stuff like that only happens in underdeveloped countries. Like with land barons in the old days. If Cliffs wants access, a flat rate one time price should be negotiated for that access OR buy KWG out. Then Temex. Then Canterra. And then BMK.
Time for Cliffs to pony up. Sitting on it could seriously backfire on Cliffs because there are others waiting in the wingor who just might decide to develop Black Horse first or Noront's Blackbird deposits that have as good as or better grades than Black Thor, albeit a smaller deposit.
And then all of a sudden, out of seemingly nowhere, NOT's chromite has a value. Big time. So let's mothball that Black Thor and get those players on the sidelines in the mix and move on from Cliffs.
