Many have wondered why Noront has always put their chrome at the back of the bus so to speak. This was not by mistake, I spoke with many company heads about this years ago. The answer was consistent every time...........the chrome, although abundant and valuable, would take a great deal of infrastructure advancements to mine. A GOOD road or rail would be needed to move the sheer amount of material. This is why noront always focused on the high grade nickel, it could be taken out relatively easily, on only a decent road. Noront backed cliffs in the north/south corridor simply because cliffs was footing the bill, but always preferred the east/west route because it satisfied so many issues (FN, government backing, etc). It could also be built in a fraction of the time as the other proposals.
The situation we are presently in means little to Noront itself as the plan is to mine the nickel first. We can do this with or without rail or north/south road.
So many are missing the huge point here, the ROF isn't just about chrome. Yes, the chrome is valuable, yes it's strategic and yes it's globally huge, but the immediate future of the ROF is in noronts nickel. In the midst of all the bickering and all the delays, Noront continues to forge ahead, under the radar. I think everyone is going to be stunned at some point, relatively soon, that Noront and the ROF can and will get started with or without a cliffs/kwg agreement. Long term, and chrome speaking, yeah, maybe we need rail or a really good all weather road, but this only affects cliffs and kwg. All the while noront will be mining nickel. I've said it all along and so have others, we will start with an east/west road and mine the nickel, then over the years a better road, or rail will be put in to properly extract the huge amounts of chrome. NOT will then focus on the chrome. Only NOT has the luxury of playing it a few ways.
There are two separate mines here folks, one that requires little infrastructure, and one that requires a lot. Investors, slowly but surely are realizing this. We are lucky that the powers that be had the smarts to forsee this. We are in a win win situation, steady but surely we continue to rise. Good luck.
