Northwestern Ontario residents will get a chance to provide input into a review of Ontario’s long-term energy plan at a session next month in Thunder Bay.
The session, to be held Aug. 7 at the Best Western Plus Nor’Wester Hotel & Conference Centre, is part of provincewide consultations on a variety of topics including the province’s mix of energy sources such as wind, solar and nuclear, and conservation.
The general public, industry representatives, Aboriginal leaders and municipal representatives are invited to provide their advice on Ontario’s long-term energy needs and how to meet them.
Deadline for comments is Sept. 9.
“It’s critical that we plan Ontario’s energy future with input and advice from every corner of the province. Together, we’ll continue to build a clean, modern and reliable electricity grid,” Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli said in a news release.
Besides the consultation sessions in eight cities, Ontarians can submit comments in response to a special discussion guide, Making Choices: Reviewing Ontario’s Long Term Energy Plan, or by completing an online questionnaire at www.energy.gov.on.ca/en/ltep/ltep-survey/.
An updated long-term energy plan for Ontario is to be released this fall.
Over the past 10 years, Ontario has brought more than 3,300 megawatts of renewable energy online — enough to power 900,000 homes each year.
