Ontarians will likely see some form of infrastructure money in the spring from the provincial government, Sault MPP and Minister of Natural Resources David Orazietti said.
Orazietti was the keynote speaker at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast Tuesday.
He said the Ontario government invested millions of dollars into a provincial infrastructure stimulus program in 2008 because “the time was right” to help an ailing economy.
While the provincial government – like other levels of government – struggle to lower deficits, Orazietti said he expects the spring budget will have some infrastructure money in it.
“We will have infrastructure funding in our budget but I'm not sure how much,” he said.
“We don't want to leave dollars there that we can't use if we can't match them,” he said referring to Canada Build money announced in the federal spring budget.
Meanwhile, the provincial government is still working on its yet-to-be-released spring budget and Orazietti is hoping that it will pass in the legislature, preventing what he calls an unwanted election....
