NI 43-101 Update (September 2012): 11.1 Mt @ 1.68% Ni, 0.87% Cu, 0.89 gpt Pt and 3.09 gpt Pd and 0.18 gpt Au (Proven & Probable Reserves) / 8.9 Mt @ 1.10% Ni, 1.14% Cu, 1.16 gpt Pt and 3.49 gpt Pd and 0.30 gpt Au (Inferred Resource)
Clearly the FN should be consulted regarding development of the RoF and they should benefit from the resulting infrastructure be it roads, rail, power and jobs/training.
What people are getting tired of from the FN is not only the rhetoric but their willingness to defy the Gov,t, the law etc to get their own way.
But like the spoiled child who screams and gets his/her own way and gets it because the parents don't have the backbone to do their job and properly discipline the child, how can you blame the child or the FN. They have learned that they are above the law because they benefit from political correctness and whitey doesn't have the political will to put them in their place.
So when they are opposed to a housing development in Caledonia, they simply hold the residents hostage and deny them access to their own homes....and get away with it because the gov't will not uphold the law.
Similarilty when they want ( even more) tax exemptions they blocade the trans-Canada highway on a long weekend in the summer....and get away with it ...again.
We elect politicians because we hope they will represent us fairly and make good decisions with the best interests of citizens in mind. This works OK when their interests and ours are alligned. But when the issue involves their own interests , they choose their own interests every time. The overriding concern of elected officials is to get re-elected.
So it is when it comes to FN issues. To hold the FN accountable and apply the laws to to the FN as they would to other citizens would not be politically correct....so they don't. If any other citizen did what the FN did at Caledonia , they would still be in jail.
So here we go again. The RoF development is one of the most important economic development opportunities for Ontario in decades. It should be on the fast track and we should have seen government support long ago. Yes use this opportunity to improve the lot of the FN. But what have we seen instead? Political posturing by both the gov't and the FN.
And McGinty wonders why he is on the outside looking in? And we in Northern Ontario are left with the stumbling and bumbling of Bartellucci and Gravelle.
Can we really blame the FN for taking the law into their own hands when they are confronted by a political system where re-election is the main reason d' etre and weak enough to allow them to break the law?
Is it any wonder Ontario is now a have not province?
