The reason this news caught my attention was because I live in Sudbbury and I am intimately familiar with the Labour Relations problems we have faced in Sudbury.

Over the years we have had some violence such as shooting at company helecopters that were delivering staff people to the plant during a strike and strikers burning down of company buildings.

Unless you have had to cross a picket line with angry and hungry strikers it is difficult to comprehent the gravity of these situations.

Last year we had a 1 year strike at Vale during which 9 strikers were fired for illegal actions such as beating up company scabs.

If you go online and look at this incident in South Africa you will see police shooting strikers at point blank range. As reported by Scarf, this was after strikers killed police officers.

I can not help linking this kind of violence to what happened in Caledonia when Native groups held the residences of the community hostage and did not allow them to return to their homes etc etc. If we put ourselves in the position of those people we wonder what we would do in such circumstances...sounds like something that only happens elsewhere? What does it take to make people start shooting? And the McGinty gov't did not support the residences???????/ Very difficult to comprehend??????

The other reason I posted this is because I have lived throgh numerous strikes in Sudbury and have seen the anger and croud mentality that takes over. It is very scary.

I thought that this incident underscores what can happen when you get a croud of people who are angry...and what we could be in for in Canada...in the mining industry and in other incidents such as Caledonia???????/

What does this have to do with NOT and the ROF........lots.....
