Message: Fun Sunday Challenge for Readers: Top Ten Mining Events in Ontario History

There is an enormous amount of intelligence out there - sometimes cranky on a Sunday morning, but I think well meaning.

What does everyone out there think are the top 10 Mining Events in Ontario history. We can even add an honourable mention or a 11- 20 list depending on your responses.

I will get the ball rolling with my suggested 10 mining events in Ontario history in chronological order:

Discovery of Sudbury Basin 1883

Discovery of Cobalt (Silver Rush) 1903

Discovery of Timmins (Gold Rush) 1909

Discovery of Kirkland Lake (Gold Rush) 1911

Discovery of Red Lake (Gold Rush) 1925

Kirkland Lake Miners Strike (Remember the Kirkland Lake) 1941-42 - This strike has a huge social impact on the formation of unions in the resource sector during and after the war years!

Timmins Windfall Scandal (1964) It drove many if not most juniors to the Vancouver market from the TSX. Do people out there remember Viola MacMillan who was at the centre of this scandal?

Bre-X Gold Mining Scandal - (1997) While it was a Calgary-based company, the subsequent reforms - affecting resource compliance - affected the entire junior sector.

The foreign takeovers of Canadian resource giants Inco, Falconbridge/Noranda (2006) A game-changer affecting the senior miners that causes emotions to run wild even to this day!

The Ring of Fire Discovery 2007 (And the credit of this discovery has to go to Noront!!) This is obviously a game changer and will go down in the history books!

Let the Ontario Mining History "Hunger Games!" begin!

Have a great Sunday everyone.
