I tend to doubt that Noront's new geophisical survey could detect as little as 3 meters of 1% nickel at a depth of 200 meters ( downhole 254-257). To my mind there would have to be a larger anomoly present that gave off the signiture the geologists were looking for. I don't think we have heard the end of these finds, or the other targets recently identified.

I think I remember Wes saying that given the amount of chormite found thus far, the nickel identified to date does not match up, i.e. there must be more nickel associated with geological process that created the Ring.

VMS nickel are often high grade but structually complex and usually present in discrete pods rather than large single ore bodies. Nickel deposits at depths greater than 100 meters have been historically hard to detect. In July 2010 Noront announced they were using Crone SQUID(Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices) surveys, that had been tested at the Raglan Ni-Cu-PGE mine. see http://www.mining-technology.com/features/feature41275/ If Noront can now model deposits below 200 meters, this would be leading edge stuff.
