Message: Cliffs Chromite Project-90 days

According to what I read below, Canadian Environmental Agency has 90 days after the receipt of an acceptable project description to determine if a comprehensive study should commence..

90 days from June 24...is Sept.23.

Now Sept. 23, 2011 is assuming the FULL 90 days are taken.

I looked at other projects on the Canadian Environmental Agency website ..and I noticed on average they don't take the full ninety days. The norm is "3 weeks BEFORE" the 90 days. So, if the law of averages apply..we are looking at next week.

Cliffs Chromite Project

Status: On June 24, 2011, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency received an acceptable project description and is now determining if a comprehensive study should commence.

About the Project: The proposed project consists of constructing, operating and eventually decommissioning an open pit/underground chromite ore mine (30 year mine life at predicted extraction rate of 6,000 to 12,000 tonnes/day) and ore processing facility. The proposal also includes an integrated transportation system consisting of a new north-south all-season road corridor and a new ferrochrome production facility, which would be located at a different location than the mine site. The project mine site is located approximately 540 km north of the City of Thunder Bay, Ontario and 240 km west of James Bay in an area known as the "Ring of Fire".

Location: McFaulds Lake, Northern Ontario

Proponent: Cliffs Ferroalloys

Under Consideration

Under the Establishing Timelines for Comprehensive Studies Regulations, the Agency has 90 days after the receipt of an acceptable project description to determine if a comprehensive study should commence, in which case information about the environmental assessment would be published in the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry.
